Far Far West PC System Requirements: Min and Recommended
The official minimum and recommended specs, which component will bottleneck you first, and why an SSD and a DX12-capable GPU are not optional here.

Specs as listed on 2026-10-28
These are the developer-published requirements for the Early Access build on Steam. Windows only — there is no Mac, Linux, or console version, and none has been announced. Price is $19.99, currently $15.99 at 20% off. Requirements can change during Early Access, so re-check the store page before buying hardware for this game.
Far Far West's requirements are unremarkable for a 2026 co-op shooter, with two exceptions that matter more than the headline numbers: it wants DirectX 12, and it wants an SSD. Everything else is a standard mid-range target.
Minimum and recommended specs
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10, 64-bit | Windows 11, 64-bit |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-7600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | Intel Core i5-10600KF or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 590 | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 10 GB | 10 GB |
| Notes | SSD recommended | SSD recommended |
Read the "or" statements carefully. These are not matched pairs — the Intel and AMD options are alternatives at roughly the same performance level, and you need one from each row.
What the minimum tier actually means
Minimum specs are a floor for launching and running, not a promise of a good experience. Expect 1080p at reduced settings rather than maximum, frame drops in the situations that matter most, and longer load times that the SSD mitigates.
That second point deserves emphasis. Co-op shooters stress the CPU hardest when many enemies and effects are on screen — exactly when you cannot afford stutter. The gap between the two tiers is real: the recommended CPU jumps two Intel generations and the GPU moves from a GTX 1660 to an RTX 2060. That is the difference between "runs" and "runs steadily during a boss wave" (/bounties/boss-fights explains why that fight is the stress test).
If you are at the minimum tier, lower settings before your first contract rather than after your first wipe.
Which component you will hit first
For this genre the answer is usually the CPU, not the GPU. Knowing the difference saves you from buying the wrong upgrade.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Cheapest fix |
|---|---|---|
| Frame rate collapses only when many enemies spawn | CPU-bound simulation and AI | Lower crowd and effect settings; close background apps |
| Consistently low frame rate everywhere | GPU-bound | Lower resolution or render scale first |
| Stutter entering new areas | Asset streaming from a hard drive | Move the install to an SSD |
| Stutter that builds over a session | Memory pressure at 8 GB | Close browser tabs; consider 16 GB |
The pattern: steady low frame rate is usually the GPU; frame rate that falls apart specifically during fights is usually the CPU. Because Far Far West is wave-based, most minimum-tier players hit the second problem first.
The 8 GB to 16 GB memory jump deserves its own note. Windows takes a meaningful share of 8 GB before the game launches, and a four-player session with spells and enemy waves is not a light workload — session setup is in /guide/coop-guide. If you are upgrading specifically for this game, 16 GB is the most cost-effective step above minimum.
Why DX12 and an SSD are listed twice
Both appear in the minimum and recommended columns, which is unusual and worth respecting.
DirectX 12 is listed as a version, not a setting — the game expects a DX12-capable GPU and a Windows build that supports it. A card without DX12 support is not "slow," it is unsupported. Check that first, because it is a hard gate rather than a performance dial.
The SSD note appears as a footnote in both rows, which is the developer saying it is not optional in spirit. Wave-based co-op streams assets constantly as enemies spawn and effects load. On a mechanical drive that shows up as hitches during fights — the moments where a half-second freeze gets you killed. At 10 GB the install is small, so moving it costs you very little space.
Platforms: Windows only
- Windows (Steam): supported.
- macOS: no version, none announced.
- Linux / SteamOS: no native version; Proton compatibility is not officially verified, so treat success reports as anecdotal.
- PlayStation / Xbox / Switch: nothing announced.
Steam lists the game for Windows only, and the developer has published no console plans. On a Mac or Linux desktop you are depending on an unverified compatibility layer — assume the refund window is your safety net rather than a guarantee of a good experience.
On handheld PCs: there is no official Steam Deck rating we could confirm for this build. Do not buy a handheld assuming this runs well; check current user reports rather than a store badge.
How to check your own machine
Five minutes of checking beats an hour of guessing. Confirm your Windows version and bit depth (32-bit Windows is not supported at all). Identify your GPU and confirm DX12 support using dxdiag or the vendor's spec page. Count your RAM in Task Manager's performance tab. Identify your CPU model and compare generations, since generations matter more than core counts here. And check where the game is installed — if the path is on an HDD, move it.
If you clear minimum but not recommended, buy it and expect to tune settings. If you clear neither, wait: the developers describe an Early Access period of roughly twelve months from the April 28, 2026 launch, with ongoing optimization. /guide/far-far-west-beginner-guide and /guide/bounty-hunting-guide cover what to do once it runs.
Early Access performance caveats
Two things unrelated to your hardware. Optimization is ongoing — the game has not left Early Access, so performance patches are normal and a build that stutters today may not next month, though a content patch can also introduce regressions. And report problems rather than quietly working around them: the developers have said they are building the game in public, and a rig that clears recommended specs but still runs badly is useful information they are more likely to fix than a workaround you invent.
Bottom line
A mid-range desktop from the last five years runs this comfortably. The two things that actually disqualify machines are a pre-DX12 GPU and a mechanical hard drive. With those covered and 16 GB of RAM, you are above the recommended line regardless of what the rest of your spec sheet says. For what to do once it runs, start with /guide/far-far-west-beginner-guide.
Does Far Far West run on Mac?
No. There is no macOS version and none has been announced. The game is listed for Windows only. What to expect from the game itself is covered in /weapons/all-weapons-list.
Is there a console version?
Nothing announced for PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch. Treat any console release date you see online as unconfirmed until it appears on an official channel.
Is 8 GB of RAM enough?
It meets the published minimum. In practice 8 GB is tight once Windows and a four-player session are both running, and 16 GB is the recommended figure for a reason. Near the minimum, close background applications before playing.
Do the requirements change during Early Access?
They can. Requirements are published per build, and this is an Early Access title in active development. Re-check the store page if you are buying hardware specifically for it.
