Far Far West Redwood Map: Unlock, Graves, and the Secret

The forest map that spent months as a work-in-progress preview is finally playable, and it hides both a grave hunt and a four-item secret puzzle.

A map that already changed status once

Redwood was previewed in July 2026 as "very early days" work in progress and did not ship with Frostburn in August. It arrived with the Fear Fear West update on October 22, 2026. Any guide that describes Redwood as unreleased is out of date; any guide that describes its secret in confident detail is probably working from one source.

Redwood is the newest map in Far Far West and the only one that was announced, delayed, and then delivered inside a seasonal event. That history matters for one practical reason: most of what is written about it was written during the eighteen months it did not exist, and a fair amount of that text is still being copied forward.

Here is what holds up.

How to unlock Redwood

Redwood is not on the starting map list and it is not gated behind Hellfire. It opens through Woodlands, the forest region that has been in the game since the early access launch.

The chain: talk to Lady Granny in Woodlands and run her questline, reported as "Granny's gotta get paid" — three quests: The Lazy Granny Express, A Soup to Die From, and The Last Tea Party. Finishing all three unlocks Redwood, plus a Lady Granny emote and the Granny Handler title.

The publisher's own event announcement describes it more loosely — "a new questline in Woodlands unlocks the new Redwood map with its own secrets to uncover" — which matches: the map is the reward for the questline, not for the event.

RequirementDetailWhere to check
RegionWoodlands must be unlockedMap select
NPCLady GrannyWoodlands, her quest markers
QuestsThree, run in orderQuest log
RewardRedwood, emote, titleMap select after turn-in

Two warnings. First, quest credit lands on successful extraction, so finishing the objective and dying loses that run's progress. Second, Woodlands itself requires Willy Billy's chain on Far West — a fresh account is two regions away from Redwood, not one.

The map itself

Redwood is a dense forest: tall trees, low visibility, and sightlines measured in meters. The publisher calls it "dark, mysterious" with "trees, enemies and secrets," which is accurate and unhelpful.

What the terrain actually does:

  • It compresses fights. You engage at close range whether or not your build wants to, which makes shotguns and melee disproportionately strong here.
  • It hides vertical routes. Canopy layers and rock formations create paths that are invisible from the ground, and several objectives sit above the treeline.
  • It rewards audio. With sightlines this short, the enemies you hear are the ones that matter.

The update also added a Giant Buzzsaw objective type, which appears as a main mission rather than a side event. It is the one piece of Redwood content that is unambiguously new mechanics rather than new scenery.

Graves: the collectible that is not on your map

Every region in Far Far West hides graves, and interacting with one releases a trapped hunter soul. Redwood reportedly contains ten, and completing the set pays out a lump of Souls — one source says 1,000, which is worth checking against your own completion screen before you plan a shopping trip.

What to knowDetail
Count10 in Redwood, reported
FinderGlowing marker on the grave itself; uncollected graves glow
ProgressPersists across runs; you do not need all ten in one mission
RewardReported lump of Souls on completion
Skin tie-inGraves count toward Gravekeeper, which needs 30 across all maps

The reported placements follow a pattern that repeats in every region: graves sit at landmarks, not in random clearings. A cave mouth, a half-built stone tower, a rooftop, a totem, the base of a cliff. If something looks deliberately placed, search its edges.

One specific caution: the tenth grave reportedly sits inside a cave reached by a zip-line chain, with a blade trap guarding the corridor. Movement abilities — double jump, an ice Bridge, a Boing — reportedly let you skip most of the route. That is single-source, so treat the shortcut as worth trying rather than guaranteed.

Grave hunting is also the cheapest way to finish the Gravekeeper skin, covered on /unlockables/skins.

The Redwood secret

Redwood's hidden mission is reportedly started by speaking to JACK, a character standing beside a cauldron on the map. From there the puzzle asks for four items.

ItemReported acquisitionFailure mode
Mysterious CrowCircle a totem six times until you hear six cawsWalking away before the last caw
Mysterious PumpkinFollow a purple beam to a giant glowing pumpkin, then melee itShooting it instead of hitting it
Mysterious SoulRandom drop from ordinary enemiesNot starting the quest first
Mysterious LanternCollect 10 flames from lanterns inside cavesLeaving a cave before the counter fills

Deliver all four to the cauldron and the mission completes. The reported reward is the Final Ember Joker — melee hits electrify when your health is at or below 30% — plus a temporary weapon with 30 charges.

That is a genuinely interesting reward for a melee build, because it adds a second damage type to a build that usually has none. It is also one source's reproduction, and secret steps get retuned. Verify each step in game rather than trusting a coordinate.

Redwood during the Halloween event

The event, running October 22 to November 12, 2026, uses Redwood as one of its resource maps alongside Far West and Area 41. Three ingredients feed the cauldron behind the lobby train:

  • Feathers — shoot the Haunted Crow released by a crow statue before it escapes.
  • Pumpkins — defeat the event boss, the Pumpkin Lord.
  • Skulls — destroy the flying skulls at a haunted cemetery, the Skullyard.

Brew them into Haunted Candles and spend those on the event cosmetics. The full list and the post-event gold pricing are on /unlockables/skins. Contract icons on the mission board show which ingredients a map offers, so you can pick Redwood deliberately rather than hoping.

Should you run Redwood?

Yes, if your build fights at close range, you want grave progress, or you are farming event currency. The compressed sightlines make it the friendliest map for melee and shotgun setups — see /guide/builds.

Not yet, if you are still unlocking regions. Redwood sits behind Woodlands and a three-quest chain, and nothing about it accelerates early progression. /zones/jungle-unlock covers the better next step.

For what changed and when, /guide/patch-notes tracks both major updates. For which contract types suit a dense forest, /bounties/bounty-types is the reference.

The short version

Redwood shipped on October 22 and unlocks through Lady Granny in Woodlands. Ten graves hide at landmarks. The secret wants four items delivered to a cauldron. Everything else you read about this map was probably written before it existed.

When did Redwood release?

October 22, 2026, with the Fear Fear West Halloween update. It was previewed in July as work in progress and was explicitly absent from the August Frostburn update.

Do I need the Halloween event to play Redwood?

No. The map unlock is a Woodlands questline and is permanent. The event only adds resources, cosmetics, and a boss encounter on top of it.

How many graves are in Redwood?

Ten, reported. They count toward the Gravekeeper skin, which requires 30 graves across all maps — so Redwood alone will not finish it.

What does the Redwood secret reward?

Reportedly the Final Ember Joker, which electrifies melee hits at low health, plus a 30-charge temporary weapon. Single-source detail; confirm the steps in game.
