Far Far West Patch Notes: Every Major Update So Far

Two large updates in six months, both of which invalidated older build advice. What changed, what it broke, and where the real notes live.

Version numbers are reported, not canonical

Evil Raptor labels its builds in the 0.2.0.x and 0.3.0.0 range, and outlets transcribe those differently — Frostburn appears as both 0.2.0.2 and 0.2.0.0 depending on the source. The dates and the content are consistent. If a number matters to you, read it off the Steam news post rather than this page.

Far Far West entered Early Access on April 28, 2026, and by the end of October it had shipped two updates big enough to make earlier guides wrong. That is the useful way to read a patch history: not as a list of features, but as a list of advice that expired.

Two updates qualify. Everything else is hotfixes and balance passes.

Frostburn — August 27, 2026

The first content update, and the one that changed the game's economy rather than just its content.

CategoryWhat it added
MapHellfire, a volcanic region with a central erupting volcano and falling meteors
ElementFrost, with five spells: Breeze, Bridge, Cube, Glaze, Blizzard
DefenseShield Points, a decaying buffer above health
MeleeKnuckles and Lasso (primary), Banjo (secondary)
Cards53 new Jokers (reported split of 25 weapon, 22 character, 6 melee Unique)
EconomyBlueprints replace per-weapon fragments; Uranium replaces Gold for in-mission purchases
DiscoveryLighthouse platforming puzzles reveal points of interest on the map
QuestsThree new Jungle quests plus a secret; Hellfire's own quest chain and secret
TechnicalPartial AI rewrite, more than 100 fixes, Discord Rich Presence

Three of those deserve emphasis because they invalidate older advice.

The fragment grind is gone. Before Frostburn, you tracked one weapon at a time and collected fragments for it. Blueprints are a universal currency spent in the lobby, so the "which weapon should I track" decision — which most pre-August guides are built around — no longer exists. Banked fragments were converted.

In-mission purchases use Uranium. Gold is now a long-term currency. Uranium is per-run, and unspent Uranium converts to XP at extraction, which quietly makes hoarding optimal. Buying a mid-run upgrade you do not need costs you levels.

Unique Joker costs scale. They used to sit at a flat price; now they scale with power level, which changed the slot math for every build. See /guide/builds.

A hotfix followed within a day — reported as 0.2.0.4 — fixing promo code redemption, adding a replacement code, and correcting Marauder enemies not freezing under the new element. A later mid-cycle patch (reported as 0.2.0.20) swapped Breeze and Cube in the Frost tree and made an Acid-plus-Electric combo more reliable. That swap is why some guides still list Cube as the level-1 Frost spell.

Hellfire's arrival, hazards, and unlock route are covered on /zones/hellfire-unlock. The shield system has its own page at /guide/shield-guide.

Fear Fear West — October 22, 2026

The Halloween update. It is easy to dismiss as a cosmetic event, and that would be a mistake: it shipped a new map, a new weapon, and three systems that change how runs are structured.

SystemWhat it does
RedwoodNew forest map, unlocked through a Woodlands questline
Halloween EventRuns through November 12; three resources feed a cauldron for Haunted Candles
Joker's ChoicePick between two Jokers of the same rarity when one drops
DisturbanceObjectives raise a threat meter that buffs enemies, peaking in a Ragestorm at 100%
Dealmaker ModifiersOpt-in modifiers that pay extra XP and Uranium
JetpackNew secondary weapon: fly, then crash down
Boss overhaulsCryptic Saloon, Vulture, and Necromancer reworked, with extra moves on Very Hard and Nightmare
Horse racingA lobby minigame behind the cemetery
MatchmakingMoved from Steam sessions to Epic Online Services

Two of these are bigger than they look.

Joker's Choice is a build-quality patch. The worst part of the old card economy was opening a Joker and finding something your build could not use. Choosing one of two of the same tier does not raise your ceiling; it raises your floor, which matters more for consistency.

Disturbance is a difficulty dial you control by playing well. Completing objectives makes enemies stronger. That is the opposite of the usual power fantasy, and it means a fast, efficient team meets a harder endgame than a slow one. Whether that is a feature or a punishment depends on your group.

The update also fixed a reported RTX 4060 GPU crash, improved gamepad navigation and input remapping, kept Jokers and spent Uranium through disconnects, and swapped the lobby gramophone for a jukebox. The official soundtrack released alongside it.

Event cosmetics, prices, and the Pumpkin Jack situation are on /unlockables/skins. Redwood's unlock chain and secrets are on /zones/redwood-map.

What the developers have said about cadence

Three things are on record: the Early Access period is planned at roughly twelve months; a public roadmap was published alongside Frostburn; and 1.0 will add new enemies, modes, weapons, and cosmetics while raising the price — Early Access buyers get the full game at no extra cost.

The July developer preview is the cautionary tale here. It showed six systems as explicitly work in progress: melee, Hellfire, a new element, shields, "30+" Jokers, plus a Redwood Forest map and a sci-fi enemy faction. Four shipped. Redwood was delayed and the enemy faction was cut. Announced is not shipped, and a preview labeled "may not ship as shown" should be read literally.

How to actually follow updates

Four sources, in order of reliability.

  1. The Steam news hub for the app. This is where the real notes live, including hotfixes that never get articles. Reading it takes two minutes and beats every aggregator.
  2. The public roadmap. Useful for direction, useless for dates.
  3. The official Discord and r/FarFarWest. Fastest signal on bugs and hotfixes, lowest signal-to-noise on balance opinions.
  4. Patch-day guide updates. Any build guide older than the current patch is a hypothesis. That includes this site — we date every page for exactly this reason.

A practical habit: after each update, spend one run re-testing your build rather than reading about it. Frostburn moved an entire currency, and a single patch moved a Frost spell from level 1 to 12. Your loadout screen is the changelog that applies to you.

For hardware behavior after the update — the RTX 4060 fix in particular — see /platforms/pc-system-requirements. For where the new currencies go, /guide/xp-tickets.

The short version

Two updates matter: Frostburn rebuilt progression and added Frost, shields, melee, and Hellfire; Fear Fear West added Redwood, Joker's Choice, Disturbance, and a jetpack. Everything older than August 27 is advice about a different game.

How many major updates has Far Far West had?

Two as of October 28, 2026: Frostburn on August 27 and Fear Fear West on October 22, plus several hotfixes and mid-cycle balance patches between them.

What is the current version?

Reported as the 0.3.0.0 line following Fear Fear West. Sources transcribe Evil Raptor's build numbers inconsistently, so check the Steam news post for the exact string rather than relying on a guide.

Did Redwood ship with Frostburn?

No. Redwood was previewed in July as early work in progress and did not ship in August. It arrived with the October 22 Halloween update, unlocked through a Woodlands questline.

Will my progress reset at 1.0?

No reset has been announced. The store page states that Early Access buyers receive the full release, and progression is described as permanent and account-bound. Balance changes may still move numbers under you.
